Today we will be reviewing the iClever IC-BK06 and IC-BK05, Microsoft Universal Foldable Keyboard, Rii i4, Rii RT-MWK03, and Wekey Pocket keyboards for your traveling pleasure. Making your typing experience that much easier by having a full keyboard to actively type with when you need it at your disposal. Allowing you to take that step back from your screen that you desperately need. These wireless keyboards are ideal for interacting with cell phones and tablets, or even smart TV's when you need some space and want a better typing experience while you’re at it. Great for when you're giving those standout presentations.
The standard laptop as the go to mobile computing experience has changed. The phone is now the go to computer, not only while out and about but also within the home. Tablets are now joining the phones ranks, but it is not actually comfortable to interact with your cell phone or tablet for extended periods of time especially when doing something like typing an essay so along with it has come the need to relive that neck strain and interact with a phone or a tablet without necessarily coming in to contact with it. Yes, you have the ability to speak to your phone or tablet and it will perform speech to text, but it doesn't always get it right especially when it comes to creating text that's not just for talking with your friends and punctuality actually matters. While out and about, traveling long distances on a plane or a train, you might not necessarily want others to overhear what you are working on. These mini wireless keyboards step in to fill that void created by the shift in technologies.
Enter iClever IC-BK06 Foldable Wireless Keyboard. It is a Bluetooth wireless soft touch silicone, ergonomic, folding, rechargeable keyboard. This keyboard is a universal keyboard designed to pair up with IOS, Android and Windows. It can retain connections to up to three devices that are switchable. so you won't have to worry about pairing issues unless you have more devices than that. Thin and light at 6.25 inches long by 4 inches wide by .44 inches high the keyboard will fit into a messenger or backpack nicely, but you'll have to have a large purse if you're expecting to fit this keyboard in. With a weight of 5.9 oz it shouldn't add too much weight to what you're carrying. The keyboard opens to a length of 13 inches. The keyboard snaps closed held together by magnetic forces. Rechargeable with a micro USB cable. If you like keyboards that are split for ergonomic spacing, this may be the keyboard for you! It has dedicated space bar buttons on each side. It powers on when opened.

The keys are responsive and large so it's like typing on a full sized keyboard which is great! Many portable wireless keyboards come out with these tiny buttons that are very hard to press without hitting something else accidentally so this is a design direction. Personally we would like the up and down arrows to be a bit bigger. For some reason a lot of these companies that design these travel keyboards don't think you actually use the up and down buttons very much, but we tend to use it a lot. They did however design the keyboard with larger left and right buttons. Utilizing the functions keys allows you to select between those three Bluetooth pairings, or the array of shortcut keys to adjust brightness, media controls and so on. The downside to this keyboard is that you will need a flat solid surface to rest it on because it folds in the middle, so any pressure put on the middle of the keyboard, if it was in your lap, would collapse the keyboard. Otherwise the iClever IC-BK06 is a great carry option with 40 hours of uninterrupted working time and a standby time of 30 days. Charges up in 2 hours of time.

Next up we have the Microsoft Universal Foldable Keyboard. This keyboard is very much like the IC-BK06 with the soft touch silicone casing, magnetic closure, with similar sizing issues of the up and down buttons. It also pairs with Windows, Android, and IOS as well as requiring a solid platform to rest on since it folds in the middle. It utilizes Bluetooth 4.0 and is rechargeable with a micro USB cable. Though it was lacking in retaining connectivity to multiple devices since it could only connect to two different devices instead of three. Instead of having the function key like the IC-BK06 to perform media controls, this keyboard has dedicated media buttons which is great! The buttons on this keyboard are hands down the most responsive, yet the design of the buttons themselves is the biggest downfall. For some reason the designers thought it would be good to have various buttons be different sizes. Some buttons like the T, G, H, and N buttons are over sized while other buttons such as the enter button are scrunched.

We don't know about the team at Microsoft, but we tend to use the Enter button a lot more than the Caps lock buttons so no idea why they thought the Caps lock button should be over sized. This mismatch of button sizing results in a reduced keyboard feedback. This keyboard ended up being our go to keyboard while traveling out and about within this list of keyboards despite the various discrepancies we mentioned previously since this keyboard doesn't have the ergonomic angle to it which throws our typing off, otherwise the IC-BK06 would actually be considered the better keyboard because of the more universal button sizes it has. The dimensions of the keyboard are: length 5.75 inches, width just under 5.4 inches and a height of 3.8 inches. Fully opened it is 11.13 inches long. Weighs in at 6.2 oz. Battery provides up to 3 months of usage on a single charge.

The IC-BK05 is another offering from iClever this time it's a tri-folding Bluetooth 3.0 wireless universal keyboard with backlighting. Supported operating systems are Android, IOS, and Windows. This keyboards stand out feature is the hands down the back lighting. It looks beautiful in a darker room. You can select from green, blue, or red colors. This keyboard has even better button sizing than the IC-BK06 which we really love, except for the arrow keys are all small this time around. It is a straight keyboard with no noticeable gap between the keys despite the fact that it actually folds in three places. The folding action happens at opposite ends of the keyboard so the keyboard closes in on itself again with a magnetic snap.

There are tabs on each end that have soft touch material, which rotate out to act as a leveling platform since the middle of this keyboard has a hump to it. The outside material is metal so if you have a glass table this keyboard will scratch it. This is a much trickier keyboard to use if you don't have a level platform to rest against. This combined with the fact that they didn't use the soft touch silicone to wrap the outside of the keyboard drops this keyboard in the rankings. It also doesn't have as many Bluetooth hotkey buttons profiles to switch from only showing one, though the keyboard does operate on Wifi as well as USB. The IC-BK05 is also the heaviest of the offerings weighing in at 9.8 oz, it will add significant weight to your load. Its dimensions are 6.5 inches long by 4.6 inches wide and 5.62 inches in height. Battery life is 5 hours with back lighting on and 90 days of standby time with 4 hours of charge time.

There are two offerings from Rii for the wireless mini keyboard category to catch the eye. The first offering is the Rii i4. It is a dual mode multimedia wireless Bluetooth 4.0 keyboard touchpad combo that comes with a usb dongle that allows you to plug in to non Bluetooth devices to use wirelessly on the 2.4Ghz RF channel. A truly universal keyboard offering that connects to Windows, IOS, Unix, Android, Smart TV, Xbox and PS4. For those who like thumb keyboards, the Rii keyboards are for you! The i4 is the equivalent of holding a video game controller in your hands. It even has left and right shoulder buttons. It comes with a recessed touchpad on the upper half of the front face, a full QWERTY style soft touch keyboard on the lower half, on the left upper half is a soft touch directional pad with a selection button in the center, the upper right has a scroll wheel with volume buttons, options, home, and back buttons. The buttons on the keyboard are a universal size other than the out lying buttons and the space button, so no confusing button sizing to mess up your flow.

On the back side the Rii i4 is an enclosure that contains the rechargeable battery as well as the usb dongle. A great secure place to keep it so it's always there when you need it. All the controls on this mini keyboard are responsive but we found that the buttons are actually quite difficult to press requiring a lot of force to depress so you get tired if you're using it too often. The button press does produce a satisfying sound but because of needing to stretch your thumbs out, the resistance is too high, but that might be their way of compensating for the size and proximity of the buttons themselves. This way it makes it harder to make a miss-press. The overall length is 6.1 inches, width is 3.5 inches and height is 0.56 inches. The housing is a rigid plastic. We felt that if you have larger hands then this would be a more comfortable keyboarding experience because with our smaller hands we had to move our hands around and over extend our thumbs to get to the middle buttons including the all important space bar. It would have been nice if the space bar was wider, of course this would have affected the other buttons on the bottom row though but you don't really use those buttons as much. The Rii i4 turns on at the slide of a switch above the escape key and has backlighting. The Rii i4 weighs in at 4.5 oz

The Rii RT-MWK03 is the second offering from Rii. It is an innovative design that really bodes well for portability. Dimensions are 5.89 inches in length by 2.38 in width by 0.44 inches in height. Weighs in at a mere 3.4 oz. Holding this MWK03 is much like holding a remote control in your hands. Covered with soft touch silicone, the MWK03 is a joy to touch. The layout really takes some getting used to. With the QWERTY keyboard being split in the middle having a recessed touchpad that is much smaller than the i4, making it more difficult to control precisely. Below the touchpad is a dedicated left and right click button and in between those two buttons is a directional pad with a recessed button in the center. Utilizing Bluetooth 3.0 the MWK03 also comes with a usb dongle that allows you to plug in to non bluetooth devices to use wirelessly on the 2.4 Ghz RF channel. The dongle and battery is once again hidden on the backside of the keyboard. This time around though it is much harder to open and remove the back as well as the dongle. Reinserting is also much more difficult as difficult for both items.

The keyboard fits snugly in the hand and feels immediately comfortable to hold. The buttons feel like they are as resistive as the i4 model but they are easier to press due to the proximity to where your thumbs are. Button spacing is just a little bit closer together than the i4, also the buttons themselves are narrower in width while being taller in height. The buttons are also convex so that there is a bit more space before they will activate the button next to them. The MWK03 could be improved by removing the touchpad from the front of the keyboard and placing it on the back. Freeing up space in the center to make the buttons a bit larger. Also it would have been nice to have shoulder buttons and scroll wheel on this model. As it stands the MWK03 can be a great companion if you put in the time to get used to the layout. Of all the keyboards you could say this mini keyboard is the most portable option.

The final keyboard we will be looking at is the Wekey Pocket. A super innovative ultra thin keyboard that just needs some tweaking to realize its full potential. With a length of 6.82 inches, a width of 3.88 inches and a height of .25 inches. size wise is a bit bigger closed than a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 while being ultra thin. It opens to a length of 12.38 inches. The Wekey connects to Android, IOS, and Windows. To carry this thing with you then whip it out, makes you feel like a Boss! It's just so different, elegant, and refined compared to the other offerings with the silver and black on the outside, then opening to a white keyboard with orange highlights and black bordering. The outside despite being metal and plastic has a raised rubber section that protects the surface that it is resting on. The platform itself should be made out of a stronger material though. It feels too flimsy and flexible like it could be broken at any time, so you don't want to stick the Wekey into an overstuffed bag or leave it in the outside pocket of a bag where it could suffer damage. Once again there is the issue of the buttons not being a uniform size so it takes some getting used where the buttons are.

We felt like the Wekey should actually be a bit longer to make the buttons even bigger and that would really help the typing experience because your wrists wouldn't be forced as close together. If the keyboard platform itself was just that little bit longer, it would be the same as typing on a full sized keyboard. The up and down buttons are once again a bit small. The thing that makes typing a bit difficult besides the issues already mentioned, is that the resistance settings are a little high. There are three levels of resistance you can select, and we found that still we were missing button presses because of the combination of the resistance being a bit too high, the buttons not being uniform, and the length of the keyboard just being a little undersized. Otherwise we would prefer to use the Wekey over the Microsoft keyboard every day of the week! The keyboard powers on when it's opened and closed magnetically. The keyboard has the usual array of buttons and fn buttons, with some special buttons for controlling things like the sound of the keyboard and the key sensitivity, as well as camera shooting. Battery life is 30 hours, The Wekey weighs in at only 3 oz. The lightest of all the keyboards.

While none of these keyboards presented are perfect, they all have their strong points and exist to solve the problems of today, that we hope in the future revisions the small issues can be worked out to really get that premium keyboard that we need and desire.
